Using the Ink Colour Calibration Tool

Some printers contain inks that block UV light in varying amounts, if you are having trouble getting expected results from your negatives, Ink Colour Calibration may help.

1. Open the ink colour calibration grid

Open the ink colour grid using Calibration > Load Asset > Ink Colour Calibration Grid

2. Save and Print the grid

• Save the file using File > Export.
• Print the negative on transparency paper using your computer's photo viewer.
• Produce a print using the process of your choice. This example is using the cyanotype process.

3. Scan the result and open in Digital Negative Studio

• Scan or photograph the result using a scanner or digital camera (note: this must be at least 1600x1600px)
• Open the file using File > Open.

4. Crop the image

In order for calibration to be successful we need to crop the image at the dotted border

• Use the mouse to draw a selection around the dotted border
• Crop the image using Image > Crop to selection or Ctrl + F

5. Run the calibration process

• Run the calibration using Calibration > Generate Calibrated Ink Colour
• Click Add to palette

6. Use the monotone tool to apply the calibrated colour to an image

• Open an image and apply the necessary adjustments to create a digital negative
• Select the desired colour from the palette
• Select Tools > Monotone (Current Colour) to apply
